Vik Chile
Tucked away a little over two hours south of Santiago is the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. It is the ideal spot for an art lover and in my case a nice first stop after a long overnight flight.
We were greeted with a warm welcome by very hospitable staff, I like to call this some true “southern” hospitality and the experience only went up from there.
The property in and of itself is a work of art. From its celestial gold tinted titanium rooftop by renowned architect Marcelo Daglio overlooking 4,000 acres of autumnal colored vineyards to each of the uniquely decorated rooms. The one of a kind rooms are all curated and designed by the incredibly talented Carrie Vik, the owner’s wife. Each room is named for the artist whose works grace the walls. I particularly liked our room with art by renowned artist Cristian Abelli in addition to the tiled, multicolored, mosaic bathroom. So much so when we were offered a room upgrade I turned it down.
While the resort is all inclusive it’s anything but what I recall from the all inclusive resorts I once frequented for spring break in high school for unlimited drinks filled with cheap alcohol. At Viña Vik the food is exquisite and the wine is world class.
We toured the property’s winery followed by a tasting of their three wines. My personal favorite was their La Piu Bell which is an elegant, smooth yet sophisticated blend that swirls with a sense of femininity. The bottle alone is a piece of art painted by Chilean artist Gonzalo Cienfuegos.
The owners’ goal is to produce some of the best wine in the world on par with French and California wines and I think he’s well on his way. Suffice it to say, my dad and myself drank the kool-aide, I mean the viño!
