Kips Bay Showhouse

The month of May is always my favorite time to take a trip to New York. Two of the many reasons include the annual opening of Kips Bay Decorator Showhouse and Anna Wintour’s Costume Institute exhibit. This year’s Kips Bay Showhouse hosts a phenomenal line up of designers and is particularly special because it is the iconic Bunny Williams’ last year as chair. Kips Bay always showcases the best in design with its very selective invitation only guest list of the most sought after designers in the industry. I grew up visiting the showhouse and then had the privilege of working for Kirsten Kelli who participated not once, but twice!

Below are some pictures from my visit //

Mark D. Sikes // This charming bedroom is the epitome of Sikes’ timeless yet refreshing style. If it’s not already top of the stack be sure to get a copy of his wonderfully beautiful coffee table book  Make it Beautiful. Also for those of you traveling to Palm Springs be sure to check out the The Holiday House a boutique hotel designed by Mark Sikes.

Bunny Williams // Williams is the master of mixing things up (and pretty much everything). Loving the faux bois walls with gold accents. I love the mix of contemporary with antiques and not to mention the mix of art.

Barbara Ostrom // “I wanted to create a place for dining with an art lover,” says Ostrom. I loved the Frank Stella inspired ceiling along with all of the art which adorned the rosey colored walls.

Brian del Toro // Upholstered walls in a bedroom my favorite element in a bedroom and an antique screen my other favorite. I love Toro’s feminine and elegant style, if only I could crawl right into bed.

Sasha Bikoff //  I appreciate the fact Bikoff took a bold risk with designing a “trippy” staircase full of color and pattern in a very traditional setting.

Philip Mitchell // This room is all about collecting things and I loved all of the little details. This piece of art stood out and I also really loved the backgammon table, an essential for every household.

David Netto // Red is one color I think designers are too often scared to use, but when done right it can be my favorite. Typically I prefer red in a more traditional setting, but Netto’s got it right with mixing red in this contemporary room.

Amy Berry //  She might not have designed a room at Kips Bay this year but I had to include her room from last fall at the Traditional Home Designers Decorate Dallas Showhouse because it is also one of my favorites from a showhouse and it is extra special to me.
