You probably did not hear it here first, but Peggy and David Rockefeller’s collection at Christie’s is exquisite and the sales are record breaking.  This past weekend I had the opportunity to visit the collection and on Tuesday they held the first auction. Monet’s ‘Water Lilies in Bloom’ sold for $84.7M and Matisse’s “Odalisque couchée aux magnolias” sold for $80M. Auctioneer, Jussi Pylkkanen, said “To have on the same night records for two of the geniuses of painting, Matisse and Monet, is something that I never imagined would happen”.

Below are some pictures of my favorite pieces from their collection.

Claude Monet (1840-1926)
Nymphéas en Fleur

Claude Monet (1840-1926)

Henri Matisse (1869 – 1954)

Pablo Picasso (1881-1973)
